The Ultimate Horse Race
A team consists of 2 people, either registered together or paired by the Pro Shop staff. No pros allowed. The teams' combined handicap cannot be less than 9 (if you do not have a handicap, you will be given one based on of your honest* average score). So, a little strategy is required, but it keeps the field more evenly matched.
There will be a 2:00 p.m. shotgun start on the front 9 for a two-person scramble, qualifying round. After completion of the front nine, teams return to the clubhouse with their scorecard to be recorded (two-hour pace of play enforced). After each team is scored, the field will be divided down the middle: the top half of the field will play the back nine horse race, the bottom half will play the front nine horse race. The name of the game is survival. Format is a two-person scramble.
Each hole will be played together as a group starting on #10 or #1. The team with the highest score will be eliminated from the horse race contest after each hole is concluded. If multiple teams tie for highest score, each tied team will elect a person to participate in the chip off. The team furthest away is eliminated; everyone else moves on and survives. The eliminated team may choose to go home, spectate, or continue two holes ahead and finish out the 18 for fun.
This format continues until there is only one team left: the champions! First and second place teams in both flights are paid gift certificates to the Pro Shop.
*If you lap the field based on a dishonest handicap, you will be disqualified.
